Lynnewood Gardens

www.lynnewoodapartments.com

Many people in our ward have lived here.  They have all had good things to say about it.  It IS extremely close to Philadelphia (essentially across the street).  There are some scary reviews online, and there definitely were some incidents there in the past, but so far all the members who lived there felt comfortable there.  (Most of them were there for just one year).

This complex has free shuttles to and from Salus University, the train station, and shopping complexes.

  1. I would definitely recommend Lynnewood Gardens! My husband Matt and I have lived here for a little over a year now and we have loved it. We will be here for the next 3 years as well. I would especially recommend it for those who will be attending Salus University; it's super close and there is a free shuttle that leaves from all over the development and drops you off right in front of Salus. There is an on-site laundry center, to which they provide a laundry card when you move in. It's always very quiet and everyone is so friendly! An added plus is that target is right across the street :-) I'd be willing to help with any questions! -Lindsay Rupp

    1. Hi Lindsay! We are looking into housing and were wondering how safe Lynnewood Gardens (and the area around it) is for children? We have 2...a 2 1/2 year old and a 2 month old and would be there for 2 years.

    2. I'm not sure if anyone gets on this site anymore, as I noticed the last comments were made back in 2013, but I suppose it's worth a shot. We are looking for housing and are curious about the safety of these townhouses. We have 3 young children and are looking for a safe, family friendly complex. We've read some scary reviews online but not sure who or what to believe. Anyone with recommendations that could lead us in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

  2. Hi Sarah, glad to hear there will be some new faces! I have never felt for my safety here. They have sidewalks and streetlights throughout the neighborhood as well as playgrounds for children. It is super close to Jenkintown and Abington which are great but if you are heading in the other direction, it is part of North Philadelphia. My husband Matt and I do not have any kids but I do know of other couples from the ward who do have children and they live in Lynnewood. The one couple has a child under a year old and the other I'm not exactly sure of the age but I'd say around 7 or 8 years old? I personally have gone for walks around the neighborhood and have seen plenty of people with their children. My husband and I usually stay in at night for our safety but I have never heard of any stories since we have been here (almost 2 years) of anything happening. I love that there are fellow members of the church here in Lynnewood! Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to try to help you out :-)

  3. I would recommend Lynnewood Gardens as well. We have been here for 10 months now and whenever we have called maintenance they are quick to answer and come the same day you need them. The neighborhood is nice and has playgrounds throughout the area. We have a 10 month old so we don't really play on the toys, but have tested the slide out! We don't go for walks at night just to be safe, but we have enjoyed being here. The good things are it's cheap rent and close to Salus University. Some of the things we don't like is not being able to have a washer and dryer. There is a laundry mat on site, but some times during the day they are super busy. We have seen a few cockroaches, but as long as you keep your house clean it's ok and you can buy roach killer or call maintenance to spray. We are within walking distance to Target, Shoprite, and Home Depot. We live on Mather Way and have enjoyed being here. It's a great place to live, but I wouldn't plan on being here permanently or more than a couple years.

  4. Kristen: welcome! It's true, this site doesn't get many people commenting, just looking at the apartments listed. If you're asking specifically about Lynnewood Gardens, most people I've talked to have overall liked their experience. I think they have made an effort in the last several years to become safer and more family friendly. I know of at least one family with three kids that lived there. If you're still concerned, I'd recommend going a little north, to Jenkintown or Glenside. Lots of students and young families live in and love those towns. If you'd like to ask more specific questions, find one of our facebook groups, Jarrettown Ward Family or Jarrettown Sisters (you'll need to be friends w/ somebody in the group to be added; I can do that if you don't already have a contact in the ward), and lots of people will share their favorite places. We look forward to meeting you!
